PROCEDURE FOR DECONTAMINATION OF D. M. WATER PLANT

1.0 AIM
To lay down a standard operating procedure for Decontamination of D.M. Water plant.

6.0 PROCEDURE
NOTE: Decontamination of D.M. Water plant is done as per recommendation of Q. C. department or once in a month; after regeneration of D.M. Water Plant.
6.1 Decontamination of Mixed Bed Unit
a) Mix 40 ml of formaldehyde solution with 200 ltr of D.M Water.
b) Inject this solution into mixed bed unit (MBU) by dipping tube attached to ejector E-2 into the formaldehyde solution and by opening valve 18, 20 & 22.
c) After completion of formalin injection close the valve 18, 20 & 22.
6.2 Decontamination of anionic exchanger
a) Mix 40 ml of formaldehyde solution with 200 ltr. D. M. Water.
b) Deep the tube attached to ejector into formaldehyde solution.
c) Open valve 4, 5, 6, 7 and adjsut valve 4 to maintain the flow.
d) After completion of injection close the valce 4, 5, 6 & 7
6.3 Decontamination of Cationic exchanger
a) Mix 40 ml of formaldehyde solution with 200 ltr. D.M. Water.
b) Deep the tube attached to ejector into formaldehyde solution.
c) Open valve 1, 2 & 3 and adjust the valve 2 to maintain the flow.
d) After completion of injection close the valce 1, 2, & 3.
6.4 Rinsing of columns
a) Next day start the D.M. Water plant (Ref. SOP-ME- ) and drain the water.
b) Give the sample of D. M. Water to Q.C.
c) After getting OK from Q. C. collect the D. M. Water into D. M. Water collection tank.
7.0 REVIEW DATE
After 2 years or when procedure is changed.

OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR CHECKING THE HARDNESS OF WATER

1.0 AIM
To lay down a standard operating procedure for checking the hardness of water.
2.0 SCOPE
Maintenance Department
3.0 AREA OF OPERATION
Boiler house.
4.0 RESPONSIBILITY
Operator/Maintenance Supervisor concerned.
5.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
Maintenance Incharge.
6.0 NORMAL OPERATION
6.1 Take 100 ml soft water in the measuring cylinder.
6.2 Put TH-05 tablets in the water. Dissolve the tablet and check the colour.
6.3 If the colour is BLUE, the water quality is acceptable. (Hardness is less than 5.0 ppm)
6.4 If the water is WINE-RED, regenerate the softner (Hardness is more than 5.00 ppm).
NOTE : TABLETS OF TH-05 AREA SUPPLIED BY THERMAX LTD.

OPERATION OF WATER SOFTNER

1.0 AIM
To lay down a standard operating procedure for Water Softner.
2.0 SCOPE
Maintenance Department
3.0 AREA OF OPERATION
Boiler house.
4.0 RESPONSIBILITY
Operator/Maintenance Supervisor concerned.
5.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
Maintenance Incharge.
6.0 NORMAL OPERATION
6.1 Open the valves V1, V3, V6 and
6.2 Close the valves V2, V4, V5 and V7
6.3 Adjust inlet valves V1, so that inlet water pressure will be maintained at 2.0 kg/cm2.
6.4 Run the plant to fill the storage tank below the overflow level pipe.
7.0 BACK - WASH OPERATION
Back wash the softner after every two days in the daily use.
7.1 Open valves V1, V2, V5
7.2 Close valves V3, V4, V5 and V7.
7.3 Adjust water flow by the inlet V1 and backwash the Softner
for 30-40 minutes.
7.4 Put the unit in normal operation after backwash operation.
7.5 SOFTNER REGENERATION
A) Preparation of Brine Solution :
Take 7.0 Kgs. of common salt in the tank and dissolve it in the water. Make level of water in the brine tank, upto marked level.
B) Close V3, V4, V6
C) Open V1, V2, V5 and V7
Adjust the flow of water by the valve V1, check the level of brine solution in decreasing. Regeneration period i.e. brine injection speed adjust to 20 minutes.
D) After brine injection, start slow rinse
Close V7, and adjust the flow of water through the Softner slowly 20 minutes.
E) Increase inlet valve V1 so that water will flow fastly, Run for 20 minutes.
F) After regeneration put the unit in normal operation.

OPERATION OF WATER BATH

1.0 OBJECTIVE
For heating of highly inflammable substance or samples.
2.0 SCOPE
Heating.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

In-charge Q.C.,Q.A.
4.0 PROCEDURE
1. Before putting ON the water bath see that whether it is filled up with water , if not fill with water.
2. Adjust the water bath properly . Put it nearer to the tap.
3. Put it in a good position & place in such a way so that during condensation reaction maximum number of assembly can be run for use.
4. Ensure that whether the water is coming from tap or not .
5. Check the level of water in every 30 mins. so that you can fill the water.
6. Do not overflow water bath .
7. Fix wire of water bath & switch it ON.
8. After the completion of your work switch it OFF & remove your apparatus from the water bath.

Operation of Purified Water Supply Pump And Use of DM Water From Storage Tank And Cleaning of Storage Tank DM Water

1.0 PURPOSE
Purpose of this SOP is to establish and maintain the procedure for Operating DM Water supply Pump, use of DM Water and Cleaning of DM Water Storage Tank.
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to DM Water transfer pump. DM Water storage tank and use of DM Water from storage tank.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of maintenance operator to follow the procedure in co-ordination with production and Q.A. / Q.C. Department.
4.0 MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENTS
DM Water, Plant, Teepol 0.1 % solution, Duster, DM Water transfer Pump, etc.
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 OPERATION OF DM WATER TRANSFER PUMP
a) Check the cleanliness of transfer pump, DM Water storage tank and surrounding area.
b) Check the level of water in the storage tank required for operation of pump.
c) Open the supply side valve of DM Water transfer pump and switch on the pump.
d) Check during operation pump that sufficient Qty. of DM Water is available and also DM Water tank does not over flow.
e) Continue the operation of pump as per the requirement.
f) At the end of shift or DM Water is not required.
g) Switch off the pump and close the supply valve.
5.2 USE OF DM WATER FROM DM WATER STORAGE TANK
a) Use only freshly collected DM Water.
b) Drain out the left over Qty. of DM Water from the DM Water storage tank, DM Water surge tanks and DM Water circulation loops at the end of days work.
c) Ensure that 0.2 micron vent filter is filtered with air vent.
d) Collect the DM Water from plant as per requirements.
e) Clean the tank as per Reference cleaning SCP and then only collect the DM Water.
5.3 OPERATION OF SYSTEM AFTER HOLIDAYS
Operate system as follows collect approximately 1000 lits. Of DM Water in the DM Water storage tank. Switch on the transfer pump continue circulation for 10 min. Switch off the pump after 10 min and drain the water from tank and loops collect the DM Water fresh and use.
5.4 CLEANING OF PURIFIED WATER STORAGE TANK
A) DAILY CLEANING
i) Wipe clean the outside surface, water glass of tank with wet cloth and 0.1 % teepol solution.
ii) Drain the left over Qty. of DM Water before collection of fresh DM Water.
iii) Rinse inside surface with fresh DM Water and drain the rinsed water and close the drain valve.
B) WEEKLY CLEANING
i) Drain the purified water from the loops and purified water storage tank and close the drain valve.
ii) Open the main hole and clean the inside surface of tank by scrubbing with Nylon scrubber and 0.1 % Teepol solution.
iii) Rinse the inside surface with DM Water twice and drain the water.
iv) Rinse the inside surface of the tank.
v) Close the main hole and drain valve.
5.5 PASSIVATION OF INSIDE SURFACE OF TANK
i) During quarterly passivation of DM Water loops continuously flush the inside surface of the tank with return line 10 % Nitric acid solution.
ii) During flushing take care that solution does not spill on the skin and face. Use hand gloves and safety goggles during passivation.
iii) After passivation clean the tank as per procedure given in SOP for DM Water loops.
6.0 REVIEW
After two years or when procedure is changed.

OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR SANITATION OF DM WATER PLANT

1.0 PURPOSE
This SOP provides detailed instructions regarding Sanitation / Cleaning of DM Water Plant.
2.0 SCOPE
As per the schedule the procedure has to be followed
- Daily Cleaning of DM Water plant columns / pipes is done from outside with damp cloth.
- The platform is cleaned using soap solution and then disinfectant solution.
- Charcoal filter is replaced every after one year.
- Sand filter anion, cation & mixed bed resins are cleaned and washed every after 3 months.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
Plant operator performs the procedure under the supervision of Production Officer / Production Executive. Assistant Production Manager / Production Manager is responsible to ensure that the process is carried out correctly.
4.0 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTS
Commercial Grade HCL, NaOH, Teepol, Scrubber.
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Preparations And Preliminary Steps
Prepare 10 % HCL and 10 % NaOH solutions in DM Water.
5.2 Precautions And Safety Considerations
Use safety rubber hand gloves while preparing acid / alkali solutions and during sanitation process.
5.3 Chronological Activity Sequence
( Replace the charcoal filter every after one year ).
a) Remove the charcoal from the vessel and replace it with new charcoal. Fit all the pipes and nuts as per case.
b) Flush the column with water. Give backwash for 2 hrs. till wash water is free from black particles.
c) Remove the anion exchange resins and soak in 10 % NaOH solution for 12 hrs. Clean the resins by hand scrubbing (using rubber hand gloves) and flush with DM Water. Repack in the column. Clean the column from inside (before repackaging with resins) with 0.1 % teepol solution and scrubber, rinse it.
d) Remove the cation exchange reins and soak in 10 % HCL solution for 12 hrs. In the similar way, clean the vessel from inside. Repack the resins.
e) Separate the resins from mixed bed columns and clean them respectively with acid / alkali solution. Clean the column from inside clean the sand with scrubbing in 0.1 % teepol solution and rinse with DM Water clean the vessel.
5.4 POST OPERATIONAL ACTIVITY
Flush the DM Water plant for 2 hrs. with water including backwashes also to sand filter, charcoal filter, mixed bed.
6.0 REPORTING
Record the details in the register. Report to APM / Production Manager about the process.
7.0 REVIEW
After two years or when procedure is changed.

OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR PASSIVATION OF DM WATER PIPE LINE

1.0 OBJECTIVE
To provide standard operating procedure for passivation of DM Water Pipe Line
2.0 SCOPE
Production Department.
3.0 AREA OF OPERATION
Engineering Dept. and Washing & Sterilisation Area.
4.0 RESPONSIBILITY

5.0 ACCOUNTABILITY

6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Isolate the DM Water transfer pump from DM Water storage tank.
6.2 Drain the DM Water from the pipe line by operating valves.
6.3 Prepare 40 Lit of 5% Nitric Acid solution (for this add 2 Lit. of Nitric Acid Commercial to the 35 Lit. of DM Water & dilute to 40 LIt.) in plastic drum.
6.4 Isolate Germicial UV Lamp from the DM Water supply line.
6.5 Connect the DM Water transfer pump to the contains of step 6.3
6.6 Ensure that the filter element from on line SS Filter housing & replace the filter housing.
6.7 Remove the filter element from on line SS Filter housing & replace the filter housing.
6.8 Switch ON the DM Water transfer pump.
6.9 Open the DM Water outlet valves one by one and close it when solution starts coming out.
6.10 Switch OFF the DM Water transfer pump & hold the solution for one hour in the Pipe Line.
6.11 Drain the solution from pipe line.
6.12 Flush the DM Water line with DM Water till the pH of feed water & outlet water from each outlet is same.

OPERATION PROCEDURE FOR EFFLUENT TREATMENT OF WATER

1.0 OBJECTIVE
For effluent treatment of water
2.0 SCOPE
To avoid water pollution.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
Concern supervisor / chemist ,
In-charge Q.C. / Q.A.
4.0 PROCEDURE
Effluent treatment system consists of 4 chambers.
1. Collect all waste water into the 1 st chamber and alum is added into that , which helps sedimentation of suspended particles.
2. Add cow dug into 2 nd chamber for the growth of bacteria which helps to purify the water .
3. Transfer it into 3 rd chamber for airation for 24 hrs.
4. Collect all treatment water after 24 hrs. into 4 th chamber.
5. Check the pH , clarity , BOD and COD count , suspended particle and oxidisable matter on monthly basis.
6. Drain out the treated water through drainage system.

OPERATING AND CLEANING PROCEDURE FOR DISTILLED WATER TRANSFER PUMP

1.0 OBJECTIVE
To provide standard operating procedure for Distilled Water Transfer Pump.
2.0 SCOPE
Production Department.
3.0 AREA OF OPERATION
Terminal Sterilization Area.
4.0 RESPONSIBILITY

6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Check the cleanliness of Distilled Water Transfer Pump & surrounding area.
6.2 Ensure that sufficient Qty. of distilled water in the tank.
6.3 Ensure that sufficient Qty. of dist. water is present in the tank and switch on the main supply.
6.4 Switch on the pump and open the supply valve of the distilled water storage tank after 30 sec. open the distilled water out let valve of the pump.
6.5 Switch OFF the pump after transfer of the distilled water. Close the out let valve of the pump and then supply valve of the distilled water storage tank.
7.0 CLEANING
7.1 Wipe the surface of the pump with dry duster at the end of days work.

OPERATING & REGENERATING PROCEDURE FOR

6.2 Check the condictivity of both beds if it is satisfactory then continue the collection of D. M. Water. Limits of conductivity are < 30 _æ_ simons.
6.3 If conductivity is not satisfactory then the plant is ready for regeneration.
